Our annual Community Trunk or Treat was a huge success! Families, staff, and community members came together for an afternoon of festive fun. The parking lot was filled with creative trunks, smiling faces, and plenty of candy to go around. We were thrilled to see such a great turnout and appreciate everyone who helped make this event so specialโfrom those who decorated trunks to those who donated treats. It was a wonderful way to celebrate fall and connect with our amazing school community!

Today our Pre-K through 2nd grade students celebrated our Special Persons Lunch! Each child had the chance to invite someone special โ a parent, grandparent, family member, or friend โ to join them for a cozy lunchtime together at school. The cafeteria was filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of love as students proudly shared their school with their guests. It was a wonderful reminder of how important our families and community are to our school family! โค๏ธ

๐ Happy Bus Driver Appreciation Day! ๐
A huge shout-out to our awesome bus drivers! Theyโre the first friendly faces our students see each morning and the ones who make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day. Rain, snow, or shine, they keep things rolling with patience, care, and big smiles.
Thank you for all you doโwe appreciate you every day! ๐

October has been all about fire safety at Canaan Elementary School! Our friends from the Canaan Fire Department helped us learn how to stay safe in case of a fire. Students took a walking field trip to the fire station, explored the trucks, and checked out all the cool equipment firefighters use. Later, the firefighters brought their smokehouse to CES, where students practiced how to safely get out of a house filled with smoke. Chief Charlie Worcester even stopped by to read a fire safety story! To thank our local heroes for teaching us so much, the CES staff surprised them with a care package full of goodies.

It's certainly getting chilly out there! We have limited supplies of extra winter gear for our students to borrow. If you are cleaning out closets, we definitely would appreciate any donations of winter gear! Thank you from the CES staff.

๐โจ This morning, Canaan Elementary students gathered for our October Core Value assembly! We wrapped up Septemberโs focus on Courage and introduced Octoberโs value: Knowledge.
Students explored what it means to grow in knowledge โ "learning something new so you can be better at whatever you do." They shared examples of how theyโve gained new skills and discussed the effort it takes to keep learning and growing. ๐ก
We also took time to celebrate our Courageous Students of the Month from September โ way to go!
Weโre excited to see all the amazing ways our students will use their knowledge this month! ๐ง ๐ #CoreValues #CanaanElementary

This school year, CES will be learning about core values. Each month we will focus on a new core value. They all point back to our Big 3:
TREATING OTHERS RIGHT is about our relationships with others, including the SEL competencies of social awareness and relationship skills.
MAKING SMART DECISIONS is about learning to make choices that incorporate many factors, as is age appropriate. It involves learning how to evaluate, identify problems, being aware of personal safety and ethical standards.
MAXIMIZING YOUR POTENTIAL incorporates self-awareness and self-management, and emphasizes long and short-term goals, where age appropriate.
In September we will be learning about courage and looking for courageousness in our students.
